Write for us

We welcome pitches that help readers notice how contemporary culture works: a precise question, a clear line of thought and enough context to make the subject understandable without specialist knowledge.

What to pitch

Propose essays or explainers on popular culture, visual culture, shared symbols, identity or cultural change. A strong pitch names its central question, explains why it matters to readers now, and shows what distinct interpretation or context the piece will offer.

A clear, grounded approach

Use specific examples and distinguish evidence from your interpretation. Avoid pitches that depend on sweeping claims about what everyone thinks, or that simply summarize a trend without explaining its meaning. We value accessible writing that welcomes complexity without obscuring the point.

Send a proposal

Use the Contact page to submit a concise pitch with a working title, a short outline and a brief description of your relevant perspective. Please send a proposal rather than a completed article unless an editor has requested a draft. A pitch is not a promise of publication.

Our point of view

Culture is never just background

The things we watch, share and recognize can carry more than one meaning. We make room for context, change and thoughtful disagreement.
